Oil Drain Valves are a simple device that take the place of an engine's sump drain plug. They allow the flow of oil to be started and stopped by activating a lever or otherwise. Most allow the connection of a suitable piece of hose.
The benefits of being able to control the oil flow (and in conjunction with an attached hose) may be to:
- Prevent contact with (hot) oil
- Adjust oil level (e.g. if over-filled)
- Sample oil
- Eliminate the use of tools
- Pause flow (e.g. to change containers on high capacity sumps)
